Strategy Lab: The potential to transform Public Services through Place-Based Budgeting

Across policy and practice there is growing energy and momentum around the idea of place-based public service budgets. At its core this approach is about identifying, coordinating and pooling existing spending to enable more effective collaboration between public services – alongside communities and other partners – to address the needs, challenges and priorities across a local area.
What would a renewed Total Place style approach – responding to contemporary challenges and catalysing public service innovation – look like today? Come along to our Strategy Lab session to discuss the necessary conditions for place-based public service budgets to drive:
- greater collaboration between place-based partners;
- a shift in resources towards prevention; and
- further innovation in how public services work with communities.
Our Strategy Lab sessions are a space for senior strategic officers in local government to come together to discuss bold, practical ideas to futureproof councils and to create the conditions for place-based responses to the big challenges we face.
