Join us for an inspiring and practical Innovation Exchange where we’ll explore the challenge of evidencing long-term outcomes, at the same time as you are learning through practice about what works, as well as what doesn’t, pivoting your approaches as you go and gathering evidence.

Evaluating programmes while they are still being developed and adapted presents several challenges. More experimental and iterative approaches can mean that parts of an intervention or outcomes can shift over time, making it difficult to establish stable metrics, comparison groups, or clear causal pathways. At the same time, failing to adapt in response to what is being learnt is not an option as councils look to use finite resources to deliver the biggest impact.

In this session together, we’ll look at the opportunities, ideas, and emerging practice that can help build approaches to evaluation and learning, and stronger, more meaningful evidence bases at a local level.

This interactive session will focus on how councils can collect the right data and insight to tell the story of long-term change in their place and use this to influence decision-making. We will also explore iterative and experimental methods that councils are using to better understand change, test new approaches, and build evidence in real time.

We’ll hear from Millie Devereux, Principal Consultant, Public Digital about their work in this area. There will be time in small, facilitated breakout groups, giving you the chance to connect meaningfully with colleagues, exchange ideas, and identify practical solutions with others who understand your context. You’ll discuss how you might take this work forward in your own council and what approaches could best support the challenges and opportunities you’re facing.

With colleagues from across the UK you will develop:

  • An understanding of approaches to learning and evaluation in developing and delivering solutions
  • An understanding of how councils can gather and use evidence differently
  • Practical takeaways from colleagues on how they are approaching this work
  • Key considerations for applying different approaches to learning and evidencing change in your council
