How We Did It: Igniting the power of place through strategic working with communities and within partnerships

Working collaboratively with communities and partners to help create vibrant and thriving places is a focus for many local authorities. Bringing everyone along on the journey and doing this during/following local government reorganisation is another element of this work that will need to be factored in by many. 

At this How We Did It we’ll hear from Claire Notman – Senior Manager, Communities, Westmorland and Furness Council who will focus on their strategy ‘Together we are powered by communities’. Demonstrating how they have worked by ‘getting alongside communities’ with partners across their area to improve the places in which people live. How they are approaching the shift of power from local government back into communities and the opportunities and challenges of doing this through unitarisation.

We will explore the nuts and bolts of developing the strategy and different examples of how they are working with their communities to make this community focus a reality, including answers to the questions:

• How does working with partners across place strengthen this kind of work?
• What is the impact of working within a newly unitarised council?
• How do they work to embed this across the council?
