THE NEW COMMERCIALISM
NLGN Fringe Event LGA 2017
Dinner, Monday 3rd July, 19:00Birmingham City Centre
Kindly supported by:
A new commercialism is evolving within the local government sector. In the search for financial sustainability, councils are increasingly looking to grow their commercial functions and develop an entrepreneurial culture. Some authorities have begun leveraging their existing assets or developing a council company model – or both, in cases such as Bristol’s own renewable energy company to tackle fuel poverty.
At this private dinner, alongside fellow prominent figures, you will consider what the new commercialism looks like and what impact it might have on factors including:
- Political accountability & public expectations
- New skills required of councils’ workforce
- Public service ethos
Speakers:
Gavin Jones
Chief Executive, Essex County Council
David Carter
Joint Managing Director, Warwickshire County Council
