How can we build consensus on polarising issues in our communities? What opportunities might AI-powered technology offer to make this process easier, cheaper, and quicker?
We are working with Demos to explore these questions through a groundbreaking new trial of digital democracy that puts communities at the centre of local decision-making. Camden Council will be the first to trial this new process and technology, focusing on Adult Social Care. In 2026, South Staffordshire District Council will focus on their Local Plan.
Join us for the first of four Waves Learning Network sessions designed to help us learn what current practices are in place to embed deliberative democracy in local authorities and understand together what great deliberation looks like and the current challenges that make achieving it difficult. If you work in a digital, policy, or community engagement role at a local authority, we would love to have you join us.
By participating in the Learning Network, this is your chance to:
- Gain insights into innovative deliberation practices
- Consider the role of AI in community engagement, and contribute to the evolution of the programme
- Explore what effective deliberation looks like when tackling complex problems and how Waves could potentially work for your community
The Learning Network will run from July 2025 to September 2026, with four sessions planned.
