It is vital that public spaces work for the residents and communities that live and work in them.  Whether the public spaces are high streets, parks, public service buildings, they all are part of the bigger picture of how people identify with where they live and how they feel.

Involving communities in regeneration schemes can increase the quality and sustainability of schemes. It is a vital part of a council’s process when looking at enhancing communities, reviving town centres and achieving long-term sustainability through social and economic growth.

How then can this vision for a place best be set?  How do you embrace the challenge of working with private investors?  How do you engage the community and create positive involvement throughout the process? Through discussion with your peers you will explore how place shaping could look for your council and the benefits of this way of working both for colleagues and for communities. You will acknowledge what barriers may stand in the way and develop together useful ideas to overcome them.
