New Local statement on racist and Islamophobic violence

We at New Local condemn the racist and Islamophobic violence that black, Asian and migrant communities have been subjected to over recent days.

We know that many people will have been feeling unsafe and experiencing trauma as a consequence of the riots. We all have a part to play in confronting hate and making it clear that far right extremism has no place in our country.

We work with partners across the country who are reflective of the rich diversity of the UK. They are working with communities affected, many of which they themselves are a part of and the appalling scenes will have been personally confronting for them. Council teams, emergency response and other public services have been working tirelessly and demonstrate how integral they are to our society.

New Local stands against racism and violence in all forms. As an organisation committed to community power we stand with those in communities who are taking an active anti-racist stance and showing that our collective values of compassion and kindness will always defeat hate.
