Governing Education for Community Regeneration

Schools operate at the heart of their communities and have the potential to play a central role in neighbourhood regeneration. The Education Act 2002 (which received royal assent on 24 July 2002) gives schools increased freedom to innovate and create local learning communities, which are responsive to local needs.
This joint NLGN & IDeA report by Liz Allen and Dr Jane Martin, argues that school improvement and neighbourhood renewal must go hand in hand for both to be successful. The report looks at six case studies where schools are putting local learning at the heart of their communities.

‘Governing Education for Community Regeneration’ is the first in a new series of NLGN publications entitled ‘Delivering Change’, which aim to help senior officers and elected members across all authorities learn from practical examples of change being implemented on the ground and respond positively to the modernisation agenda.
