Embedding a Culture of Continual Engagement
Councils are constantly looking for new ways to engage their residents, from citizens’ assemblies to listening sofas. Critical to doing this well is to understand and to tell the story of the relationship between citizen and state. What should this relationship look like? How do we continually engage with our residents to build open and continual relationships? This can help to mobilise community action, give you real time insight and understanding of what residents want, and help shape solutions to the many challenges your communities are facing.
We know that this is really difficult to do though. Conversations with residents are often related to one off projects or plans, and still leave the question ‘how do we continually engage with residents’ unanswered.
The Innovation Series
Innovation Exchanges give participants from our member councils a space to step away from day-to-day activities and engage with peers from across the country. Each session addresses a big challenge or opportunity facing councils and their communities. Sessions are peer-led and practically-focused, so participants come away insights, ideas and learning to share with their teams.
Innovation Explored series feature a write-up of the core points from the Innovation Exchange, alongside practical learning from councils and other experts pioneering new approaches to tackling today’s biggest challenges. Each Innovation Explored also shares a roundup of relevant resources from the sector and beyond.
