The role of local government is evolving. It now plays a more important role in peoples’ lives than ever before. Naturally, this has increased the demands on the individuals leading these evolving councils. Increasingly complex service and resource challenges require creativity, resilience, and deeper workforce insight. More active collaboration across public services requires “whole place” influence beyond organisational boundaries.
This private dinner will bring together prominent figures in local government to discuss how we can overcome these barriers to success. We will explore several questions including:
- What new and existing challenges can be solved by strategic leadership?
- Do member-officer relations need to adapt to confront these barriers?
- How can shared leadership and accountability co-exist?
Martin Reeves, Chief Executive, West Midlands Combined Authority and Coventry City Council
Jo Negrini, Chief Executive, London Borough of Croydon
