Many councils are recognising that for planning to truly deliver regeneration and inclusive growth well, they need to adopt a community-centred approach to building and develop places that work for residents.  Bringing communities into the consultation and conversation from the beginning.  How is this done with purpose and what is best practice in starting such a complex journey?

Join us at this session to explore the key ways in which to develop with your communities.   We’ll hear from Paul Clark, of Stories who will talk about the importance of collaboration in planning and development and share experiences of working with others to create and shape meaningful places that put people and their lives at the heart of the process.

We will also hear from a Council who has taken this approach.  James Moody from Test Valley, will focus on their work in this area over the past 10 years and demonstrate the difference that came from high levels of community engagement in planning especially using deliberation to identify shared ambitions for their towns.

Through discussion with your peers you will explore how this could look for your council and the benefits of this way of working both for colleagues and for communities. You will acknowledge what barriers may stand in the way and develop together useful ideas to overcome them.

With colleagues from across the UK you will develop:

  • An understanding of how taking a community-centred approach can benefit regeneration and town planning
  • Next steps and key considerations you need to bear in mind when taking this forward
  • Practical takeaways from colleagues who are already involved in this approach
