A thriving and growing social economy is the desire of every council.  The key to making this a success is empowering communities and community businesses to have a real stake in their local economy.

But how do you actually do this? Establishing and nurturing healthy and collaborative relationships with your community business sector is not an easy task. And we know handing assets over to communities can be met with resistance in some areas of the council.

Join us for our first in a two-part series of sessions looking at the local economy, and we will provide you with great practice from your peers that you can take inspiration from.

You will leave this session with a deeper understanding of how building a fairer, greener and more inclusive economy together with residents and community businesses will improve outcomes for your neighbourhoods, drive efficiencies and deliver meaningful change. Alongside practical steps to take to

  • Identify the enabling role your Council can take
  • Establish productive and collaborative relationships with your community business sector
  • Make sure council assets are contributing to your social economy in the best way
