Our latest research project has focused on exploring Community powered regeneration. The project is in partnership with Browne Jacobson and Local Partnerships.

We have been exploring how the current approach to development could create more opportunity for participation and engagement in shaping plans. What would it mean in practice to shift away from an adversarial approach to one that builds support and acknowledges both possibilities and trade-offs?

We are holding two online research workshops which will each address different themes, and seek input from a range of expert practitioners to test and develop our findings:

Workshop 1: What’s wrong with the current approach to regeneration and how can we change it?  Thursday 11 July, 12:45 – 14:00, online.  Sign up via the Register Now link above.

This workshop will explore the challenges of working within the current system of planning and regeneration. Some key questions will be:

  • How far is the current system involving communities in regeneration plans already? What barriers to this exist in practice?
  • What is the right balance of roles between local government and private sector?
  • What is the role of national government and what policy or culture changes are required in the long term?

Each workshop is a standalone session – invitees may wish to attend one but we would welcome participants who would like to attend both, to enable broader engagement with the project’s emerging findings.
