Shaheen joined New Local in September 2022 to help build our Practice work. Her work focuses on how local councils and other partners can operationalise the principles of community power into strategies that help deliver place-based and local led public services. Shaheen has led global city innovation initiatives with an emphasis on exploring the intersection of design, digital, equity and resiliency to create new strategies of community empowerment in local government.
She joined New Local from the Boston Consulting Group’s Centre for Public Impact, where she worked alongside government partners to reimagine public service delivery. Prior to this she led R&D programs at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change where she assisted international governments on delivery and implementation strategies, introducing service design and design thinking methodologies to the policy space with a particular focus on digital transformation strategies. She holds a BA from The University of Manchester in European Studies and MA from King’s College London in Conflict Studies. She speaks French, Creole, Spanish and Arabic.
Their local: Shaheen grew up in Brent which is one of the most ethnically diverse boroughs in the UK. Having spent many years living in Manchester and abroad she returned to London and now lives in Queen’s Park – only a stone’s throw over the border in the Borough of Westminster from where she grew up.
