Nicola Steuer

Director of Practice

Nicola joined New Local as Director of Practice in November 2021 and works directly with individual councils and other partners to turn the principle of community power into reality.

Before this, Nicola worked as Managing Director at the School for Social Entrepreneurs and has held previous roles as Programme Director and Head of the Centre for Wellbeing at New Economics Foundation, Deputy Director and Consultancy Manager at the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES), and Programme Director at place-based funder Cripplegate Foundation and Islington Giving.

Their Local: Nicola was born in Kingston upon Thames, spent her early years in Croydon, and her childhood in Worcester Park in the London Borough of Sutton – the place where former Prime Minister John Major also grew up. She is now back in London following a number of years living in Birmingham, Leeds, Coventry and Manchester.
